Part of Wellington's celebration of Chinese New Year, the East Meets West show(external link) is a rich cultural experience set in a contemporary context with local professional, community and international artists sharing the stage in a cultural exchange, of and collaboration in contemporary performing arts. Through the universal language of dance, a combination of contemporary and traditional art forms provides an enriching experience to build understanding and appreciation of eastern and western cultures.
Local performing arts community including professional and emerging contemporary dancers will performing alongside the Jinan Acrobatic Troupe from Shandong province in China. This group of international performing artists combine Beijing Opera, martial arts and contemporary dance with traditional acrobatics, to provide a unique combination of classical and contemporary performing arts.
The show will also feature performances by some of Aotearoa's finest performing artists; including Footnote New Zealand Dance, Touch Compass Dance Company (Auckland) and a screening of an excerpt of OneOne, by internationally acclaimed choreographer and film maker Daniel Belton (Dunedin).
The show will be a unique celebration of cultural identity and community and is a must see festival highlight.
